Well, we have been in our new house for nearly two weeks now! All of us have had so much fun setting up our things, claiming favourite spots, and generally settling in. Now, the kids are in the basement because both of the bedrooms down there are absolutely huge. It just wouldn't have been fair to only let one kid have a big bedroom! I have to admit I was quite surprised at how well they were both sleeping, considering my bedroom is on the third floor, and also because my children looove to watch scary TV shows about hauntings and other shenanigans. But they were sleeping really well and seemed very pleased about their massively huge basement bedrooms, so I thought I was wrong in my first assumptions.
I guess these things take time. Last night my son came to me crying because he said he saw some tiny white lights moving really fast in his bedroom. Of course it freaked him out - no one likes unexplained, fast-moving lights! He seemed pretty terrified, and I could feel the clamminess of his fear as he clung onto my arm for dear life. His fear sent a shudder through my body as I walked both kids up the stairs to sit on the couch to talk about it. I managed to calm them both down, and my son bravely said he wanted to go look again.
We went back to his room and he carefully entered, looking all around and trembling. He requested I take the mirror off the wall (thank goodness, because it was facing a window and could possibly have been creating an entry point for entities). I started to ask him what he thought the lights might be. He thought about it and said "It could have been fairies". BAM! I was so surprised by how intuitive he was in this moment ... and I proceeded to explain that they might just be looking for somewhere new to play and his room is so much fun. But we both agreed that it wasn't acceptable for the fairies to frighten him like that, and we decided to ask them to leave. I did most of the talking, and then I told him that he should use his voice to tell them as well. We told the fairies that we could play outside with them another time.
Then I asked him if he would like me to contact someone to protect him - I suggested his Grandma (who passed over), or his guardian angel, or an Archangel - and he chose his Guardian Angel. I called upon him out loud and also asked for the guidance, protection and love of the guardians of children, of souls and also his familiars and our family totem Eagle. All along I asked him to see if he could feel the energy changing at all.
He ended up feeling much much better after this charging of the room, and the call out for protection. Sometimes I wonder if he will remember these tricks and spells that I'm teaching him ... or if he'll just think it was like telling story and that it's not really Real.
I do, however, get the sense that he knows all this stuff anyway. He probably knows a lot more than I do ...

Running and Writing Challenge
I have decided to accept a challenge that showed up in my inbox yesterday - the challenge is to Run and Write every day in January. writeandrun31
Well, I got off to a great start today, going for a 2 1/2 hour snowshoe with a group! I've decided that because of our unpredictable winter this year, I will be committing to at least 20 minutes of physical exercise each day. (Currently freezing rain is coating every surface in Quesnel with a shell of shiny, pebbly-looking ice. This is the kind of weather that will make branches snap off, and trees bend over with the weight of the ice. It's treacherous and dangerous ... but it is absolutely beautiful.
As for my writing challenge, well I'm committing to writing for 5 minutes per day. That could be jotting things in my brainstorming journal, or writing on my blog. My only rule is that is must be creative writing. I must be using pretty words!
Of course, I know I will write for more than five minutes ... because it is something I love to do.
Here is to 31 days of Challenge!

Ever Feel Like Something's Missing?
There are times in life when we have a yearning desire to help others, and when that time is upon us, we feel absolutely invincible. We feel filled with purpose and love, and there is a simple joy that radiates and touches all the people we meet. This feeling, unfortunately, cannot be forced. There is always a precursor to this type of bliss, and it usually involves a dark period of time when we simply must be alone as there is nothing left to give.
There are times when we must nurture our mental and spiritual health. There are times when we must figure out what it is that truly makes us happy, and we can only do this when we get a little selfish and turn our back on the needs of others. Did you know that it's okay to do this?
Guilt holds a lot of people back from doing the things that could ultimately bring happiness into their lives. It is such a shame that we should feel guilty when nurturing our innermost Needs, because this kind of self-indulgence is required in order to have the ability to give of ourselves. It is only when our cup can be filled no more that we have the capacity to allow it to run into the cups of others! It's like those towers of champagne glasses - the one on top has to be filled first.
It is particularly hard to give to ourselves at this time of the year, but a few stolen moments for a 20-minute coffee with a friend goes a very long way to sowing seeds of happiness. Of course, it's more important to have some kind of regular routine that helps you to work through some of the nonsense stories that we play in our minds. Whether it's working out to burn up anxious energy, or meditating to find focus in your mind, or practicing yoga to get in touch with the language of your body - It is important to find a way to Do something proactive.
"A martyr is a person who displays or exaggerates their discomfort or distress in order to obtain sympathy or admiration."
(Merriam Webster Dictionary)
No one wants to be seen as a martyr, but sometimes we don't realize that this costume is something we often try to wear. You are the only one in charge of your destiny, your body, your thoughts, your decisions, and even of your feelings, believe it or not. There is always a choice, but sometimes the choice isn't easy to make when we don't want to hurt others.
In the end, I believe that the way we live is the way we shall die. This concept may seem dark, but the reality is, we will all pass away one day, and the way we operate in life is how we will approach our ultimate death as well.
The question is: How much time do you have to put your innermost thoughts and desires on hold? How long are you going to wait before you take a strong hold of the reins of your life? You have the power to be fabulous, amazing, strong and beautiful ... and you also have the power to ultimately help others. We all do, but the most effective people are the ones who take time for themselves, who nurture and love themselves, who have found a balance in their lives, but who also understand that life will always be a balancing act. There will consistently be times in life when you miss opportunities to get time alone to get back to You. But there will also consistently be decisions to make about getting real about what is most important at any given time.
The most important piece of the puzzle is YOU, and how you perceive the world and your place in it. Sometimes we need to get a little selfish to experience the extreme of how we have been operating in order to go to the place of balance, and that is absolutely fine. I am quite certain that life will give you many chances to go back to the life you led before ....

This holiday season, do it differently. See what happens when you remove your expectations and your thoughts of what you think you are supposed to do, be, have or give. Just seek out your own personal Bliss, and see where this leads you ... I wish you good luck on the Journey! Love Nicole

Obligation
Obligation. This is a word that has recently been clouding my personal atmosphere. It is disabling my connection to the Universe and buggering up my usual good judgement. There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to see what one is supposed to be doing.
I generally have a very good sense of my destiny, and often receive information from my life which guides me to exactly where I need to be. However, in light of the many changes and upsets in my dramatic life, I feel muddy in the head. I can't seem to make a guided decision. I can't seem to channel the wisdom that has so often comforted me in times like these. I suppose, however, that there have truly never been "times like these" for me. There is just so much going on.
Last night we held a circle in my dear friend's backyard. We nestled in amongst the trees, circling the fire, catching sights of the moon through the rich boughs of evergreens. It was there, in that sacred place that I was able to finally see what I had been doing to myself. I have been pushing through these stormy times, against the wind and rain, becoming battered and hurt by one little word: Obligation.
So, I decided to give back these "obligations" to the Universe. I said that I need them to be manifested differently. I clearly created the feelings, but when I didn't know how to change them, I simply allowed to Universe to absorb them. What a feeling of relief, I must say. I did not realize how much stuff I was holding on to. Fear. Hopelessness. Responsibility. Obligation. And it is so amazing that I created all of this for myself! And in such a short span of time.
But I feel cleansed this morning. "The morning is wiser than the evening" - this Russian proverb comes back to me frequently, because it is so true to life. It sounds like something my mom has said to me before. Actually she has. But it really sounds like something that would come from her. My mom is a wise wise woman. I should take her advices more often, but she is not the type to offer advice in an inappropriate moment. She is so very patient that way, and that is something I hope to develop in myself. I admire her very much for how she holds back, compromises, waits patiently for the right time to say things. Sometimes the perfect moment doesn't arise at all. I don't know how she bears that kind of situation. Especially with three daughters!
The Full Moon is now beginning to wane already, and we will be working our way to the New ... I wonder what lessons the New Moon will hold? It is only two weeks away.
